CNCC Women’s Basketball Earns First Win of the Season

The Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) women's basketball team celebrated their first win of the 2024-2025 season with a hard-fought 73-68 victory over Laramie County Community College on a neutral court in Gillette, Wyoming, this past Saturday. The Spartans delivered a balanced team effort to secure the milestone win.

Freshman Shyann Farbes had a breakout performance, leading all Spartan scorers with 18 points on 8-of-17 shooting while also grabbing 8 rebounds. Taylor Billman was a force in the paint, contributing 15 points and 4 rebounds while hitting clutch free throws down the stretch. Off the bench, Charity Posey provided a spark with 13 points, including a three-pointer, and went 4-of-8 from the free throw line.

Another standout performance came from Makenzie Castille, who nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Her effort on the boards helped CNCC stay competitive in the rebounding battle. Cimonie Martinez added 10 points of her own, showcasing the Spartans' depth and versatility.

The Spartans shot 37.5% from the field and showcased resilience at the free throw line, making 21-of-36 attempts to maintain their edge throughout the game.

After a tightly contested first half that saw the teams tied at 14 after the first quarter and Laramie leading 34-29 at halftime, CNCC came out firing in the second half. The Spartans outscored Laramie 22-14 in the third quarter, taking control of the game and never looking back. A balanced offensive attack and a relentless defensive effort helped CNCC hold off Laramie's late-game push.

The victory marks a turning point for the young Lady Spartan squad, as they build confidence and momentum for the rest of the season. First-year Head Coach [Coach's Name] praised the team's effort, saying, "This was a total team win. Every player contributed in some way, and it's great to see their hard work paying off. We're proud of the fight they showed today and excited to keep improving as a team."

With this win, CNCC moves forward with renewed energy, ready to tackle the challenges ahead.

Congratulations to the Lady Spartans on their first win
