Rangely, CO – Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) is proud to announce the reinstatement of men's wrestling as an official athletics program, with competition set to begin in Fall 2025. This marks an exciting return for the Spartan wrestling program, which has a rich history at CNCC spanning from 1969 to 1997. During its historic run, CNCC wrestling achieved national recognition, including NJCAA National Tournament appearances in 1972, 1975, 1978, and 1993, as well as national rankings of #10 in 1996 and an impressive #6 in 1997.
The decision to bring wrestling back aligns with CNCC's mission to expand athletic opportunities and provide student-athletes with a fulfilling experience. Wrestling is one of the most popular sports in Rangely and the surrounding region, and the CNCC community is eager to revive this cherished program, building on a legacy that has inspired Spartan fans for decades.
"We are extremely excited to bring men's wrestling back to CNCC," said Athletic Director Zach Stevenson. "Wrestling is an incredibly popular sport in our region, especially here in Rangely. Reintroducing wrestling is part of our broader mission to diversify our sports offerings, provide rewarding experiences for student-athletes, and deepen our connection with the community. We want to give our fans something to rally around and be proud of, and we believe this program will do just that."
CNCC will soon initiate the search for a head coach to build the program, with an eye toward competing at a high level in the NJCAA. The Spartans are poised to add to their storied history, reigniting the passion for wrestling within the college and the community.
