RICHFIELD, Utah — History was made on Friday as the Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) Men's Wrestling program earned its first team victory since the 1990s, defeating Barton Community College 32–23 at the Cornerman Luke Memorial Pre-Season Tournament, hosted by Snow College in Richfield, UT. This is the first year of CNCC Men's Wrestling since the program was discontinued in 1997. 

The day began with a hard-fought 26–21 loss to Trinidad State Junior College, but the Spartans responded with toughness and heart — bouncing back to defeat Barton in a thrilling dual that marked a major moment for the new era of CNCC Wrestling.

"I'm really proud of how our guys responded to a tough loss," said Head Coach Tytus Coombs. "To bounce back and earn the program's first win in decades shows the character of this team. We're building something special."

Several Spartans earned key victories that fueled the historic team win:

• Jaysen Skeen (125 lbs) — Fall at 5:54

• Andrew Gonzales (141 lbs) — Tech Fall, 20–4

• Kooper Burk (157 lbs) — Fall in 54 seconds

• Wesley Niegel (165 lbs) — Fall at 1:41

• Tony Passetti (174 lbs) — Dec. 11–8

• Tyler Rawlings (285 lbs) — Fall at 2:52

These performances helped CNCC seal the 32–23 victory and officially place the Spartans back into the win column for the first time in over three decades.

With the program now officially back in the win column, the Spartans have set a strong foundation for the 2025–26 season. As Coach Coombs continues to develop his roster, the team is showing signs of a bright future built on resilience, toughness, and belief.
