RANGELY, Colo. – For the first time in nearly three decades, the Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) Men's Wrestling team is back on the mat.
The program has officially released its 2025-26 inaugural return schedule, marking a significant milestone for the Spartan Athletics Department and the Rangely community. The season will include a full slate of duals, tournaments, and national-caliber events across the western United States and beyond.
Led by Head Coach Tytus Coombs, a Rangely native and former collegiate wrestler himself, the Spartans will make their long-anticipated return to competition after last fielding a team in 1997.
"This has been a long time coming, and we're thrilled to bring collegiate wrestling back to CNCC," said Coombs. "We've put together a competitive schedule that will challenge our athletes from day one, and we're ready to represent the college and the community with pride."
A Schedule Built for Competition
The Spartans open the season on October 25 with the Red vs. White Inter squad Dual inside Hefley Arena—a chance for fans to get their first look at the roster in a high-energy team showcase.
From there, CNCC hits the road to face Colorado Mesa University on November 1, followed by a highly anticipated home debut against Western Wyoming Community College on November 6. Additional key duals include:
-
Jan 21 vs. Snow College (Home)
-
Jan 26 vs. Otero Junior College (Home)
-
Jan 31 vs. Colorado Mesa University (Home)
The Spartans will also compete in several notable open tournaments and national events, including:

-
NJCAA Coaches Duals (Dec 18)
-

This schedule reflects CNCC's commitment to preparing its athletes to compete at the highest level, while also rebuilding traditions that matter to the college and its supporters.
A Community-Fueled Comeback
The return of wrestling has been met with incredible support across campus and in the local community. Coach Coombs' deep roots in Rangely have played a crucial role in recruiting and program development, as he aims to make CNCC a destination for aspiring wrestlers across the region.
"We're building something special, and this is only the beginning," said Coombs. "Our guys are putting in the work, and we're excited to lay the foundation for a new era of Spartan Wrestling."
All home duals will be held in Hefley Arena and streamed live on the Scenic West Network.
