CNCC Women's Basketball elevates Benedick as head coach

RANGELY, Colo. (May 3, 2021) - The Colorado Northwestern Community College women's basketball team has hired a new head coach, who is actually a familiar face around the program.

Monday, CNCC Athletic Director Candra Robie announced the hiring of Eric Benedick as the program's head coach, after he previously served as the program's interim coach during the 2021 spring season. A veteran of the coaching world, Benedick led CNCC to 5-15 overall and 3-12 in Scenic West play.

"Eric came to us as the assistant coach in the fall and stepped into the interim role with immediate success," said Robie. "With his experience as a player, knowledge of the game and what he envisions for his student-athletes, he quickly established himself as the right candidate for us."

Prior to arriving at Colorado Northwestern, Benedick competed on the professional level in various FIBA-sanctioned leagues globally. Additionally, he competed collegiately in the United States at Tohono O'odham Community College and Northern New Mexico College. 

Coaching experiences for Benedick include a tenure with the New Mexico Clippers AAU organization. He coached a New Mexico Elite team to the 2019 Gold Championship at the Native American Basketball Invitational, and holds coaching experience at the high school level.

Benedick holds an undergraduate degree from the University of New Mexico. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Sports Administration from Eastern New Mexico University in addition to a graduate degree Psychology from Western New Mexico University
