Rangely, CO – The Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) women's basketball team, with a commitment to the health and safety of its student-athletes, regretfully announces the cancellation of the current season due to insufficient numbers of players. This is viewed as an anomaly within CNCC as it is the first time in its history where it had to cancel an athletic season. The decision, made in collaboration with the coaching staff and administration, is aimed at ensuring the well-being of the student-athletes during these challenging times.
Despite the disappointment of canceling the season, CNCC remains optimistic about the future. The college anticipates a full women's basketball team for the 2024 season, with plans to compete in a complete schedule.
CNCC is confident in the leadership of Coach Stephen Carter to rebuild and strengthen the women's basketball program. Coach Carter, renowned for his commitment to player development and program excellence, is dedicated to creating a potent team for the next season.
"While it's disheartening to make the tough decision to cancel this season, we prioritize the health and safety of our student-athletes above all else and having 5 student-athletes play every minute of every game would have been detrimental to all of them," said Coach Carter. "We appreciate the understanding of our supporters and look forward to a promising future as we work diligently to rebuild the program. Our goal is to return stronger than ever with a full team and an exciting season ahead."
CNCC remains committed to providing a positive and competitive environment for its student-athletes. The college expresses gratitude for the continued support of fans, families, and the community and looks forward to welcoming everyone back to support the women's basketball team in the next season.
