Lady Spartans defend home court, secure victory against Central Wyoming

Wednesday night would mark the third game in as many days for the Lady Spartans as they made their home debut against the Rustlers of Central Wyoming CC. Fresh off of a hard fought two game-two day road trip, Coach Gilbert knew it would once again take a collective team effort to secure a CNCC victory.

The first quarter would see both teams' trading baskets and defensive stops. This would continue into the second quarter, as neither side seemed to be able to pull away from one another. The Lady Spartans would enter the half down 34-35, a position they had yet to find themselves in this season. Great first half offensive contributions from both Erin Mauro and Kalee McEwan would help in keeping CNCC in the game.

Third quarter action saw the Lady Spartans come alive! Jada Moss and Brandi Jordan both imposed their will offensively, generating bucket after bucket. Both players would combine for 14 points in the 3rd quarter to help give CNCC a 56-45 advantage heading into the 4th quarter.

Moss and Jordan would continue their offensive assault into the 4th quarter! The Rustlers were at a loss to stop Moss, who continued imposing her will by attacking the paint and generating free throws. Big plays from both Erin Mauro and McKleigh Begaye throughout the quarter helped to squash any hopes of a Central Wyoming comeback. CNCC would outscore Central Wyoming 22-16 in the 4th quarter, resulting in a victory with a final score of 78-61!

For the second game in a row, major contributions were seen across the board from multiple CNCC players. Jada Moss flirted with a triple double, finishing with 14 points, 10 rebound, and 8 assists! Brandi Jordan (17 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals), Erin Mauro (12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists), Kalee McEwan (10 points, 6 rebounds) and McKleigh Begaye (10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) all stepped up in major ways to help secure victory for the Lady Spartans.

CNCC looks to keep its winning streak alive as it opens up Region 18 play next week. The Lady Spartans will hit the road once again on Tuesday (02/09) to take on Utah State University Eastern, followed by a home matchup against #20 nationally ranked Salt Lake Community College on Thursday (02/11). Both games will tip off at 5pm MT.
