CNCC Men's-and-Women's Basketball to open 2021-22 Scenic West Athletic Conference play

RANGELY, Colo. (November 29, 2021) - The Colorado Northwestern Community College Men's-and-Women's Basketball program will do something that hasn't been done in some time - play Scenic West Athletic Conference games before the holiday break.

CNCC will face off against Snow College and the College of Southern Nevada in a Scenic West road trip, opening the conference season at Snow on Thursday. Colorado Northwestern will play six league games prior to the holiday break, with this week opening a three-week run through league play.

Men's Basketball: The Spartans will take to the road for three games this week, playing a non-conference game Wednesday at Casper College prior to open league play Thursday at Snow.

After posting a 2-5 start to the season, Spartans coach Nathan Terrin said his team is ready for the challenges that lie ahead of them in league play.

"We get to start off with a familiar face on Wednesday and we are in for a battle (at Casper)," he said. "After that, we get to start conference with two away games against Snow and CSN, which will be great road tests against great competition."

Terrin said CNCC is hopeful to overcome any lingering rust from the holidays quickly this week.

"Hopefully with some time off, our players got to recharge, refuel and spend time with family," he said. "It will be a quick turnaround right into conference play, so we will have to tighten things and make adjustments quickly."

Women's Basketball: CNCC is full of momentum this week, entering a conference bout with longtime SWAC power Snow College on a high of momentum.

The Lady Spartans went 2-1 in non-conference games last weekend, sitting with a mark of 5-3 entering the games at Snow and Southern Nevada. The recent upswing in performance has many around the CNCC program excited.

"There are no easy wins in the SWAC," said Colorado Northwestern coach Eric Benedict. "Tipping off with Snow College on Thursday will be a very tough test for us as they are a big team that is capable of winning the region this year. CSN has one of the best all-around players in the region. It'll be a fun opening week for us to take everything we've learned in our non-conference schedule and continue to grow.

"Right now, we are in a good rhythm. Our team knows we are capable of big wins and comebacks, so now it's learning how to start strong and not have to play from behind."
