RANGELY, Colo. (January 14, 2020) – Improvement comes in many different forms when rebuilding a program and the Colorado Northwestern Community College women's basketball team is seeing improvement, albeit not where they want it most.
Â
With an 0-2 start to Scenic West Athletic Conference play in tow, the Lady Spartans will host a Thursday evening matchup with longtime rival Snow College and then travel to face regional foe USU Eastern on Saturday. CNCC fell to Salt Lake and Southern Idaho to open league play, giving the program a chance to re-double its efforts in advance of its first two-game week in conference play.
Â
CNCC coach
Sherryl Klosterman noted the challenge that lies ahead in Snow and USU Eastern, but maintained the positivity of her players is making a difference.
"I am looking forward to 2 conference games this week," she said. "We have a home game on Thursday against Snow and we should be getting
Talia Afuvai back from injury and that gives us another scorer and depth in the post. Snow is a deep team with several scorers. We will need to limit turnovers and shoot it well. On Saturday, we travel to Price to take on a hot-shooting USU team. We will need to be aware of shooters and control the rebounding game."
Â
Snow College enters the game coming off a Saturday loss to Salt Lake Community College, setting the program's record at 0-2 in the Scenic West. On the other side, USU Eastern is 2-0 in league play after downing Southern Idaho and Snow College to open the first two weeks of league play.
Â
CNCC's Thursday game with Snow College will tip at 5:00 p.m., with the men's game being played shortly after. The Lady Spartans will play at USU Eastern on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Â
