RANGELY, Colo. (November 5, 2019) - The Colorado Northwestern Community College women's basketball team fell in its home-opening contest Tuesday night in Hefley Gym.
The Lady Spartans suffered a narrow 70-64 overtime loss to Western Wyoming Community College, falling after a hot start to the game. The loss drops Colorado Northwestern to 0-3 to open the season.
CNCC opened the game with intensity, holding a 21-4 lead after limiting Western Wyoming to just 1-of-15 shooting in the opening period. After taking a 29-24 halftime lead, Western Wyoming outscored CNCC by a margin of 14-7 in the third quarter to claw back into the game. CNCC was outscored 10-4 in the overtime period after finishing regulation tied at 60-60.
Dani Russo led the Lady Spartans with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting.
Alyssa Civitak scored 12 points to also finish in double figures.
Colorado Northwestern will travel to Arizona for a tournament this weekend. The Lady Spartans are scheduled to face Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Friday and Arizona Western College on Saturday.Â
