CNCC Women's Basketball takes to road for Lamar tourney

RANGELY, Colo. (November 20, 2019) - The Colorado Northwestern Community College women's basketball team will travel to play in a three-game preseason tourney this weekend.

Playing their fourth consecutive tourney, the Lady Spartans will play three games starting on Thursday with Western Texas. CNCC will also play Frank Phillips College and host Lamar Community College throughout the weekend.

After an 0-3 mark last weekend in a Wyoming preseason tourney, CNCC coach Sherryl Klosterman said she likes the progress her team is making, in spite of its record.

"We played well last weekend in Wyoming," she said. "We are so close to getting over the hump. Learning to handle time and score situations is key for us."

Western Texas is 2-4 to open the season, with wins over Phoenix College and Weatherford College. Lamar is 4-4 with a narrow 77-76 win over CNCC last week.

Klosterman said her team is looking to improve on fundamentals.

"We will need to improve our ball control and shooting percentages," she said. "We are looking for consistency on the defensive end, specifically finishing possessions with a rebound."

Thursday's game against Western Texas is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff in Lamar. The Lady Spartans will play Frank Phillips at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and Lamar at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
