CNCC Women's Basketball opens 2019 season with loss at Western Wyoming

RANGELY, Colo. (November 1, 2019) - The Colorado Northwestern Community College women's basketball team opened the 2019 season on a down note, falling to Western Wyoming Community College in a mini-tournament game.

Playing at Western Wyoming, the Lady Spartans fell to WWCC by a margin of 72-56, falling to 0-1 on the young season. A strong third-quarter helped propel Western Wyoming to the win after the two teams played close in the first half.

CNCC trailed just 29-25 at halftime before Western Wyoming went on a 20-10 in the third quarter to take a strong 49-35 lead into the final period. Western Wyoming limited the Lady Spartans to a shooting percentage of just 25.8 percent in the game as Colorado Northwestern also committed 15 turnovers in the game. CNCC did hold a slight edge in the rebounding margin with a 47-45 advantage.

Alyssa Civitak led Colorado Northwestern with a game-high 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting, also finishing with 5 rebounds. Dani Russo had 13 points.

CNCC will play Saturday against Central Wyoming College. The game is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start in Rock Springs, Wyo.
