CNCC Baseball Releases 2025 Spring Schedule Featuring Challenging Opponents and Exciting Matchups

1/9/2025 1:19:00 PM

The Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) Spartans baseball team is set to embark on an exciting 2025 season, with a challenging slate of games designed to test their mettle and prepare them for Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) play. The Spartans, led by Head Coach Lou McCollum in his 13th season, have announced their spring schedule, which kicks off with a preseason road trip to Arizona and culminates in the Region 18 Tournament.

Joining McCollum on the coaching staff are first-year assistant coaches J.R. Dwyer and Jaxson Carlile, who bring fresh energy and expertise to the program. Together, they will guide the Spartans through a season packed with competitive matchups and opportunities for growth.

The Spartans will open their season with an extended road trip to Arizona, where they will face some of the state's top programs, including Paradise Valley Community College, Glendale Community College, Pima Community College, and Cochise College. This demanding preseason schedule, which includes 16 games over three weeks, will provide the Spartans with valuable experience against tough opponents.

After wrapping up their Arizona tour, CNCC will head to Las Vegas, NV, for a neutral-site series against Prairie Baseball Academy. The Spartans will also take on former SWAC rival College of Southern Nevada at CSN Field in Henderson. These games will serve as key preparation for conference play, offering the team a chance to test themselves against quality competition.

The Spartans' schedule also includes neutral-site games against Southern Utah University in Stansbury Park, UT, and a series against Northeastern Junior College in Grand Junction, CO, at Suplizio Field. These contests will allow CNCC to face regional foes before opening SWAC play.

The Scenic West Athletic Conference season begins with a series against the College of Southern Idaho on March 21st. With four teams competing in SWAC baseball this year, every game will be crucial as teams jockey for seeding in the Region 18 Tournament.

The four teams in the SWAC will advance each to the Region 18 Tournament, with the #1 seed hosting the #4 seed and the #2 seed hosting the #3 seed in the first round. This format ensures an intense battle for positioning throughout the conference season.

CNCC fans will have plenty of opportunities to cheer on the Spartans at home, starting with their first SWAC home series against Salt Lake Community College on March 28th. The Spartans will also host Utah State University Eastern and College of Southern Idaho during the conference season at the CNCC Baseball Field in Rangely.

"We're excited about the schedule we've put together," said Head Coach Lou McCollum. "Our preseason games in Arizona and Las Vegas will give us a great foundation heading into SWAC play, and we're looking forward to seeing our players rise to the challenge. With a strong coaching staff and a motivated team, we're ready to compete and make this a memorable season."
