Spartans Defeat Gateway 6-5

The Spartans took lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over Gateway CC Geckos on Saturday. Colorado Northwestern trailed 5-4 in the top of the ninth inning when Cameron Ostmark doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs. The Spartans got on the board in the second inning when Evan Bunevich singled scoring one run. Cassidy Watt doubled on the first pitch of his at bat, scoring another run for the Spartans. Tobin Armstong earned the victory on the mound for the Spartans. Armstrong surrendered zero runs on two hits over his two innings, striking out two and walking zero. Andrew Kim started the game for Colorado Northwestern. The righty surrendered three runs on two hits over two innings, striking out two. Luis Perez and Noah Bean entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Carson Jacobs took the loss for Gateway Geckos. Jacobs allowed four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out eight. The Spartans smacked one home run on the day. Cade Butterfield put one out in the third inning. Colorado Northwestern collected ten hits in the game. Watt, Bunevich, and Butterfield each collected multiple hits for the Spartans. Cassidy Watt went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Spartans in hits.
 
 
In game two the Spartans fell to Paradise Valley on Saturday as they lost the lead late in an 8-5 defeat. Zachery Radigan took the loss for the Spartans. The right-hander allowed five hits and four runs over two-thirds of an inning. Cecil Gray started the game for the Spartans. The righty allowed three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out four and walking zero. Berk Barnes collected four hits in defeat. Barnes doubled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fifth, and singled in the seventh. The Spartans will head to Glendale Arizona to take on the Gauchos of Glendale CC on Tuesday at 2:00pm.
