RANGELY, Colo. — Colorado Northwestern Community College Athletics is excited to announce the addition of Doug Merrell as the interim head coach of the CNCC volleyball program.

Merrell brings a wealth of volleyball experience to the Spartan program, with a background that includes competitive playing, coaching, officiating, and athlete development. A native of Vernal, Utah, Doug grew up in a volleyball family and developed a passion for the sport at an early age.

His playing career began with competitive military volleyball teams during his service in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military career, Merrell continued competing in both indoor and sand volleyball at a variety of levels before transitioning into coaching.

As a coach, Merrell has worked with boys and girls at every K–12 level and has coached athletes through multiple volleyball clubs. He was also a founding member of the United Volleyball Club of the Rockies, where he continues to coach and help develop athletes.

In addition to his coaching background, Merrell has spent the past 15 years as a certified high school and college volleyball official. His experience on both sides of the net has given him a unique perspective on the game and a well-rounded understanding of what it takes to develop successful volleyball players.

Throughout his coaching career, Merrell has helped numerous athletes continue their careers at the collegiate level, while others have gone on to become coaches themselves.

"His experience, passion for volleyball, and commitment to developing athletes make him a great addition to our program. We believe he will provide strong leadership for our student-athletes and help continue building the foundation of CNCC volleyball."

Merrell is excited for the opportunity to lead the Spartans and looks forward to bringing his experience, passion, and commitment to athlete development to Colorado Northwestern Community College.
