RANGELY, COLO — The wait is over — CNCC Spartan Soccer is back! Both the men's and women's teams are set to open their 2025 campaigns this week, with plenty of excitement surrounding a new season at the Bud Striegel Family Soccer Field.
Thursday, August 21 kicks off the action as the women's team travels to Trinidad State Junior College for an 11:00 a.m. matchup, while the men's team makes their home debut later that day at 12:30 p.m. against Gillette College.
The weekend will mark another big matchup for each program. On Saturday, August 23, the Spartans will host Mohave Community College in a doubleheader, with the women's team playing their home opener at 3:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 5:30 p.m. Both contests will be played at the Bud Striegel Family Soccer Field, which continues to be one of the top venues in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Building Momentum
Women's Soccer
The Spartans return a strong core of sophomores, including Jasmine Hernandez (GK), Hali'a Pelton (M/F/D), Allee Williams (M/F), Lilly Wittwer (M/F), Chloe Vowell (M), Andelyn Jensen (D), Taygen Overall (D), Amelia Warner (M/F), and Ashlee Harris (M/F). This experienced group anchors every position on the field, bringing leadership and composure to matchups. With a talented freshman class stepping in to contribute, Head Coach Eldon Brough sees a roster built for both depth and versatility. After earning national recognition in the NJCAA rankings last season, the Spartans are determined to raise the bar even higher this fall.
Men's Soccer
On the men's side, the Spartans also return a strong set of sophomores: Ryan Orr (DEF), Antonio Valadez (DEF), JT Orr (WING), Ryan Harcrow (FOR), Tyson Sharp (MID), Dax Wilkinson (DEF), and Sebastian Barreda (GK). These returners bring valuable experience across the backline, midfield, and attacking unit. With Head Coach Justin Motzkus welcoming in a talented freshman class, the Spartans boast a balanced roster that mixes seasoned leadership with exciting new talent eager to make an impact.
