RANGELY, Colo. — Colorado Northwestern Community College Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Austin Schafer as the next Head Women's Soccer Coach, ushering in the next chapter of a program that has quickly established itself as one of the most competitive in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Schafer steps into the role after serving as an assistant coach with the CNCC soccer programs, where he played an integral part in the continued growth and success of Spartan Soccer. His familiarity with the program, student-athletes, and community allows for a seamless transition as CNCC builds on the momentum of a historic era.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead this program," Schafer said. "CNCC is a special place, and this team has built something powerful over the last few seasons. I'm excited to continue developing our players, competing at a high level, and representing this college and community with pride."
A Strong Foundation and a Clear Vision
The CNCC Women's Soccer program is coming off the most successful stretch in its history, including back-to-back postseason appearances, record-setting offensive performances, and a growing reputation as a contender within the Scenic West. Schafer inherits a program built on accountability, resilience, and competitive excellence — values he has embraced throughout his coaching career.
Known for his energy, attention to detail, and player-centered approach, Schafer places a strong emphasis on development both on and off the field. His coaching philosophy aligns closely with CNCC Athletics' mission of fostering academic success, personal growth, and competitive achievement.
Looking Ahead
With a talented core of returning student-athletes and a growing recruiting footprint, Schafer is eager to continue pushing the program forward.
"We're going to compete every day," Schafer added. "Our goal is to create an environment where players are challenged, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential — on the field, in the classroom, and beyond."
CNCC Athletics will formally welcome Schafer as he begins preparing for the upcoming season, continuing the proud tradition of Spartan Women's Soccer while charting an exciting path forward.
