Box Score 2 Colorado Northwestern Community College's (CNCC) men's and women's soccer teams kicked off their 2024 season with impressive performances during their season-opening weekend. Both teams showcased their skill and determination in matches against Northeastern Junior College on Thursday, August 22, and Lamar Community College on Saturday, August 24.
The women's team started their season with a dominant 7-1 victory over Northeastern Junior College. The Spartans were relentless in their attack, recording 27 shots on goal while limiting Northeastern to just two. Chloe Vowell led the charge, scoring the first goal assisted by Amelia Warner, and later adding a second goal unassisted. Other standout performances included goals by Ashley Gastelo (assisted by Allee Williams), Amelia Warner (assisted by Chloe Vowell), Ashlee Harris (unassisted), Allee Williams (unassisted), and Cortney Winn (assisted by Journey Toomey).
On Saturday, the women continued their strong start with a commanding 5-0 victory over Lamar Community College. Ashlee Harris opened the scoring for the Spartans, followed by goals from Allee Williams (assisted by Amelia Warner), and Hali'a Pelton, who scored twice with both goals assisted by Warner. Lilly Wittwer capped off the win with a goal, once again assisted by Warner. The team's solid defense and coordinated attack ensured a clean sheet and a second consecutive win.
The men's team also had a successful weekend, beginning with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Northeastern Junior College on Thursday. Rodney Meena scored the only goal for CNCC, securing a valuable point for the Spartans in their season opener.
The men followed up with an impressive 4-2 victory over Lamar Community College on Saturday. Roberto Flores opened the scoring, followed by goals from Julio Lopez and Drew Cordova, who sealed the win for the Spartans. The team's resilience and ability to capitalize on their chances were key factors in their triumph over Lamar.
Both CNCC soccer teams have set a strong tone for the season, with the women starting 2-0 and the men demonstrating their potential with an unbeaten start. The Spartans look forward to building on this momentum as they continue their 2024 campaign.
