As we reach the half way point in the collegiate rodeo season, the last Fall rodeo for the CNCC Spartans is in the books. At the Utah Valley University rodeo held in Spanish Fork, UT, Sophomore all around cowboy Beau Southern continued to prove his weight in gold as he finished first in the bareback riding and second in the short round of bull riding with an outstanding 82 point ride.
Coach Mitch Waltisperger's tie down ropers continue to be consistent as Payson Hallam finished 2nd in the first round, and third overall while Wyatt Hallam moved all the way from 10th in the long round with a 2nd place finish in the championship round, placing him 5th overall for the weekend.
Freshman McCall Hopkins expanded his all around repertoire by entering the steer wrestling this weekend. Despite it being his very first time competing in the event, Hopkins placed 4th in the short go.
The Men's team finished 3rd on the weekend behind Utah Valley University and College of Southern Idaho.
The Spartan cowgirls struggled again this weekend despite some very strong efforts by our ladies. Sophomore Dany Draper (Brown) and partner Stetson Robbins narrowly missed the short go in the team roping placing 11th with McKenna Clingman only one tenth of a second too long from qualifying for the championship round placing 11th in the breakaway.
As the fall season concludes, we will be transitioning into our "tween" season of skill development and academic focus. The Spring season for the Rocky Mountain Region will kick off March 6-7, 2020 in Salina, UT.
