RANGELY, Colo. (October 4, 2022) - Something historic happened in the Colorado Northwestern Community College Rodeo program over the weekend.
The Colorado Northwestern rodeo team hosted its 1
st college rodeoÂ
ever at the Moffat County fairgrounds, in Craig, this past weekend, and it was a "muddy success"! CNCC's team of 6 freshman rodeo competitors hosted the entire Rocky Mountain region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) for great rodeo action.Â
Â
Mud was a constant factor in the arena, but Bill Sixkiller, fairgrounds manager, and crew kept the rodeo conditions safe and competitive for all 150+ entrants, who came from 11 different colleges, located in southern Idaho, plus all of Utah and western Colorado. The rodeo featured great competition between the student athletes, after which trophy buckles were awarded to the winners in all 10 events, plus the lady's and men's all-around champions.
Â
The rodeo team would like to thank everyone from this entire region of NW Colorado for their support of their rodeo. It took each and every person who helped with preparing for and producing the rodeo, to create such a successful event. The contestants who participated commented on how well they were treated and what a great rodeo it was for them. So, a BIG "shout out" to all of NW Colorado!
Â
This coming weekend, the Spartan rodeo team travels to Price, Utah, where Utah State University-Eastern, will host the region for the last college rodeo of the Fall 2022 season.Â
