RANGELY, Colo. (October 31, 2019) - The Colorado Northwestern Community College volleyball team opened its season-ending road trip Thursday with a thrilling result.
The Lady Spartans earned a 3-2 win at the College of Southern Nevada, powering to a 15-9 victory in the final set to earn their first road win of the conference season. The win pushes CNCC's overall record to 5-17 and 2-7 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
CNCC earned a win in the first set, picking up a narrow 25-22 edge. After CSN captured the second set, the Lady Spartans responded with a 25-17 win in the third set before Southern Nevada rallied to send the match to a deciding fifth set. Tied 3-3 early in the final set, Colorado Northwestern went on a 3-0 run that created a consistent edge for the team. CNCC would eventually stretch the lead to 10-3, creating an edge that was simply too large for the Lady Coyotes to overcome.
Individually, CNCC was led by
Brilynd Pence's 15 kills, while
Haley Naea finished with 14 kills.
Izzy Stille led the Lady Spartans with 23 assists while
Braedyn Peters contributed a team-high 25 digs.
Colorado Northwestern will close the regular season on Saturday at nationally-ranked Snow College. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. CNCC will also play in next weekend's Region 18 championships at Snow College.
