Lady Spartans Volleyball Opens Season with Strong Showing at Gillette College Labor Day Tournament

Gillette, Wyo. – The Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) volleyball team kicked off the 2025 season this past weekend at the Gillette College Labor Day Tournament, finishing with a solid 2-2 record and plenty of momentum heading into the rest of the fall.

The Spartans opened the tournament with an electrifying win, defeating Dawson Community College in a five-set thriller (3-2). CNCC showed resilience and composure in the decisive fifth set, securing their first victory of the season in dramatic fashion.

On Friday evening, the Spartans fell to Williston State College 3-0, and on Saturday morning they dropped another tough match to Miles Community College, also 3-0. Despite the setbacks, CNCC rebounded impressively to close the tournament on a high note, sweeping Dakota College at Bottineau 3-0 to even their record.

"This was a good first weekend for us to measure where we are at and what we need to keep working on," said Head Coach Casey Quiggle. "The way we battled against Dawson and finished strong against Bottineau showed me a lot about the grit and fight of this team. We're excited to keep building."

The Lady Spartans now turn their attention to the Yavapai College Tournament in Prescott, Arizona, where they'll face another challenging field over Labor Day weekend. With a competitive core of returners and an energetic freshman class, CNCC looks to continue raising the bar as they prepare for Scenic West Athletic Conference play later this fall.

Lady Spartan fans can follow the team all season long in conference play on the Scenic West Network.
