RANGELY, COLO - It was a busy weekend for CNCC Athletics, as our fall sports teams competed across multiple states and venues, officially opening Scenic West play and continuing their early-season growth.
Soccer Opens Scenic West Play
Both the men's and women's soccer teams traveled to Salt Lake City on Saturday to face Salt Lake Community College in their Scenic West Athletic Conference openers.
-
The women's team battled hard but fell 4-0 despite strong efforts from goalkeeper Jasmine Hernandez, who recorded seven saves against a high-powered Bruin attack.
-
The men's team stayed within reach for much of the match but ultimately dropped a 2-0 decision, with goalkeeper Sebastian Barreda tallying three first-half saves.
While the results weren't what the Spartans hoped for, both teams continue to build experience and chemistry as they prepare for a long conference slate.
Volleyball Battles in Yavapai Tournament
The volleyball team hit the road for the Yavapai College Tournament in Prescott, AZ, posting a 1-3 record on the weekend. CNCC opened with an impressive win over Justice College before facing tough opponents in the next three matches. Head Coach Casey Quiggle emphasized that the tournament provided valuable experience against strong competition, giving the Spartans a clear roadmap for improvement heading into Scenic West play.
Cross Country Makes Spartan Debut
History was made as CNCC's men's and women's cross country teams competed in their first-ever meet at the BYU Invitational. Head Coach Marki Grant praised her athletes for their effort and composure in a challenging debut, noting the potential for rapid growth as the season continues.
