CNCC Women’s Soccer Defeats USUE 2-1 to Stay Undefeated

The #19 ranked Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) women's soccer team continued their stellar start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Utah State University Eastern (USUE) on Thursday, improving to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.

Facing tough competition, the Spartans showed their resilience once again, with standout performances from goalkeeper Jasmine Hernandez and goal scorers Hali'a Pelton and Ashlee Harris.

USUE struck first in the 9th minute, as Maci Nell scored an unassisted goal to put CNCC down 1-0 early. The Spartans, however, quickly regrouped and responded in the 36th minute when Hali'a Pelton found the back of the net with an unassisted goal to tie the game 1-1 before halftime.

In the second half, the Spartans continued to apply pressure and broke the deadlock in the 57th minute with a goal from Ashlee Harris assisted by Lily Wittwer, giving CNCC the lead. The Spartans held off a relentless attack from USUE, who managed 28 shots and 16 shots on goal.

Jasmine Hernandez once again anchored the defense with an incredible 12 saves, following her recent accolades as SWAC and NJCAA Division I National Goalkeeper of the Week. Her defensive prowess, including key saves in the second half, helped secure the win for CNCC and maintain their undefeated record.

Coach Eldon Brough praised the team's effort, stating, "This was a tough, hard-fought win, but the girls showed great determination. Jasmine's performance in goal was great once again, and Hali'a and Ashlee stepped up with crucial goals when we needed them."

With this victory, CNCC continues its unbeaten run and will look to carry the momentum into their next matchup against Snow College on Saturday, as part of the college's first annual Homecoming celebrations.
