RANGELY, Colo. (December 18, 2021) – Late-game heroics lifted the Colorado Northwestern Community College Men's Basketball to a Scenic West Athletic Conference victory Saturday, providing a boost to the program's holiday spirits.
Yes indeed, CNCC will head into a break with cheer, thanks to a 79-76 road win at USU Eastern. A series of late free-throws lifted the Spartans to the win, along with lifting CNCC's overall record to 4-9 and a mark of 2-4 in the Scenic West.
In a game that featured five lead changes, CNCC held a narrow 38-36 lead at halftime, building the lead up to 13 points – 74-61 – with just 4:51 remaining. From there, USU Eastern went on a run to bring the score to 76-74 with just 49 seconds left in regulation. CNCC's
Trevon Cason then iced the game at the free-throw line, hitting three late foul shots to send the Spartans to the road win.
Cason led CNCC with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while
Noah Valdez contributed 15 points.
Dom Rivas and
Seena Namdar also scored 15 points apiece.
Colorado Northwestern will return to Scenic West Athletic Conference play on January 6, hosting USU Eastern inside Hefley Gym.
