Doug Merrell

Doug Merrell grew up in Vernal, Utah, in a volleyball family where his passion for the sport began at an early age. His playing career began with competitive volleyball teams during his service in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military career, Doug continued competing in both indoor and sand volleyball at a variety of levels.

Doug eventually transitioned into coaching and has since coached boys and girls at every K–12 level, as well as athletes through multiple volleyball clubs. With a desire to create a stronger experience and development environment for athletes, Doug became a founding member of the United Volleyball Club of the Rockies, where he continues to coach and mentor athletes.

In addition to his coaching experience, Doug has been a certified high school and college volleyball official for the past 15 years. His experience as both a coach and official has provided him with a unique perspective on the game and a well-rounded understanding of volleyball from both sides of the net.

Doug’s passion for volleyball and commitment to developing athletes is contagious. Throughout his coaching career, many of his former players have gone on to compete at the collegiate level, with some continuing their involvement in the sport as coaches themselves at various levels.

Doug is excited to bring his passion, experience, and commitment to athlete development to the Colorado Northwestern Community College volleyball program and looks forward to helping build a strong culture and foundation for Spartan Volleyball.
