Matt Higgins

Matt Higgins enters into his first season (2021/2022) as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at CNCC. He has coached basketball for 14 years and this will be his second stint coaching at the collegiate level in Colorado.

Higgins previously served as an Assistant Coach at Adams State University (2015-2016) with the men's basketball program, in addition to being the programs Head JV Coach. His primary duties consisted of player development, scout breakdown, film exchange, recruiting, and academic oversight. 

Since 2014, Higgins has served as a Lead Camp Director for Advantage Basketball Camps, conducting camps nationwide throughout summer months. His oversight saw him lead & conduct 11 camps in 10 different cities, with primary duties consisting of developing camp curriculum, staff oversight, and marketing. 

From 2013-2015, Higgins served as the Co-Founder, Director of Operations, and Lead Skills Coach for REAL Hoops, a non-profit based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has hosted multiple player development camps domestically & internationally throughout Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Barcelona, Spain. His expertise in individual player development lead him to working with over 50 of New Mexico's top professional, collegiate, and high school talent.

From 2007-2014, Higgins would serve as a high school coach in the Albuquerque metro area in roles as a Varsity Assistant, Head JV Coach, and Head C-Team Coach, with coaching stops at Del Norte High School and La Cueva High School. 

Higgins has a BA in Interpersonal Communication (University of New Mexico), an MA in Intercultural Communication (University of New Mexico), and an MBA in Leadership (Adams State University).  He is currently a PhD student at Claremont Graduate University where he studies Positive Psychology, focusing primarily on resilience, meaning in life, and well-being. Since 2016, Higgins has taught at the university level, teaching communication and psychology for the University of New Mexico, the University of Melbourne, and Rice University. "
