Coach Justin Motzkus enters his second season as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC), bringing with him a wealth of experience as both a standout goalkeeper and a dedicated coach. In his first year, he laid the foundation for a competitive and disciplined program, focusing on player development and a strong team culture.
As a player, Motzkus built an impressive résumé beginning at Hunter High School in Utah, where he earned All-State honors and twice led the state in shutouts across his four-year varsity career. His performance earned him a spot on the ODP Region team, and he had opportunities to train alongside MLS veterans Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando at Real Salt Lake and Real Monarchs.
At the collegiate level, Motzkus competed at Yavapai College, helping the program capture two Conference, one District, and one Regional championship, while also making an NJCAA National Championship appearance and finishing third in the nation. He later continued his playing career at California State University, Stanislaus, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science.
Following his playing career, Motzkus transitioned into coaching and quickly became a respected goalkeeper trainer in Utah. He served as the head goalkeeper coach for prominent clubs such as La Roca and Elite FC, and worked with TIP Goalkeeping as the Associate Head Trainer, where he led individual and group sessions for players of all ages. His coaching résumé also includes high school experience at Hunter High and Mountain Ridge High, where he contributed to Mountain Ridge’s conference championship and 6A state semifinal run.
Away from the pitch, Motzkus enjoys the strategic challenges of golf, spending quality time with family and friends, and walking with his girlfriend Anne and their dog, Arthur.
Now entering his second year leading the Spartans, Coach Motzkus continues to build on his vision for the men’s soccer program—developing well-rounded student-athletes, instilling a competitive edge, and creating a culture of excellence at CNCC.
