Ty Burgess

Coach Ty Burgess returns to Colorado Northwestern Community College as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, bringing passion, energy, and a strong foundation in player development to the Spartan program. A former student-athlete at CNCC, Burgess is proud to come full circle and contribute to a team and campus that played a significant role in his own journey.

A native of Utah, Burgess was a four-year player at Kearns High School, where he earned the nickname “The General” for his leadership, grit, and basketball IQ. Despite being undersized, he consistently stood out for his work ethic and determination—traits that have defined his career both on and off the court.

Burgess began his coaching journey in 2016 by founding a grassroots youth program aimed at giving back to the game that shaped him. What started as a small local effort quickly grew into a respected player development pipeline that helped produce eight college athletes, including several who went on to compete at the NCAA Division I level.

After making a name for himself in player development, Burgess joined CNCC as a student-athlete, where he was a two-year starter, team captain, and a vocal leader for the Spartans. He graduated with a 3.4 GPA, exemplifying the same discipline in the classroom that he brought to the hardwood.

Following his playing career, Burgess returned to Utah and joined the Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) women’s basketball program as a skill development coach. His work ethic and results earned him a promotion to second assistant coach ahead of the 2024–25 season. During his time on staff, SLCC won a conference championship and returned to the national tournament, with Burgess playing a key role in scouting, player development, and culture building.

In addition to coaching, Burgess continues to compete at a high level. He earned a spot in the Top 16 at the Salt Lake City Stars (NBA G-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz) Elite Try-Out Camp, standing out among over 250 participants. He was also named a Powder League All-Star, competing alongside top-tier college players and professionals in Utah’s premier Pro-Am circuit.

Coach Burgess brings a team-first mentality, a deep commitment to growth, and a relentless drive to help student-athletes succeed. His return to CNCC marks not just a new chapter in his coaching career, but an opportunity to invest in the next generation of Spartans with purpose and pride.
