CNCC Baseball Splits Doubleheader with College of Southern Idaho

The Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) Spartans opened their Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) series against the College of Southern Idaho (CSI) with a doubleheader split on Friday at Columbine Park in Rangely. After a tough 11-4 loss in the opener, the Spartans rallied for a thrilling 7-6 comeback victory in game two, keeping their momentum alive heading into Saturday's games.

Game 1: CSI 11, CNCC 4

CNCC started strong, building a 4-0 lead through five innings. Sophomore Michael Deitz launched a two-run homer, and freshman Javier Gaeta added an RBI double to pace the offense. Sophomore Aiden Lundquist delivered five scoreless innings on the mound. However, CSI's offense erupted late, scoring five runs in the sixth and six more in the seventh to secure the win.

Game 2: CNCC 7, CSI 6

In the second game, the Spartans showcased their resilience. Trailing 5-0, CNCC mounted a comeback with a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by RBI hits from sophomore Jake Cook and sophomore Brent Holdren. In the eighth, Cook delivered a clutch two-run single to tie the game, and Deitz scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Redshirt sophomore Garrett Nieman started on the mound, with freshman Kaelan Hayashi earning the win in relief.

Looking Ahead

The Spartans (9-30 overall, 4-10 SWAC) will conclude their series against CSI with another doubleheader on Saturday at Columbine Park. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
