TWIN FALLS, Idaho – Another trip to College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls brought two more wins over the weekend for the Colorado Northwestern Community College Men's Basketball team which improved to 10-1 on the season.
On Friday, the Spartans handed Lane Community College and 84-72 loss. Saturday brought another double-digit win for CNCC as they dominated Eastern Wyoming by a score of 84-56. For the weekend, sophomore
Tyler Christensen averaged nearly 20 points per game. Redshirt-sophomore
Jamir Todd added 16 points per game. Colorado Northwestern's men have now won five straight and are tied with Snow College for the best record in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC).
The contest against Lane Community College saw the Spartans jump out to a 10-3 lead. Sophomore
Cole Johnson capped the early surge with a three-pointer from the left wing just over 90 seconds into the game. The Titans responded by rallying to a 21-17 advantage less than 10 minutes into the game. Four lead changes in three minutes ensued before a Todd putback gave Colorado Northwestern the lead for good at 24-23. Head Coach
Ben Cruickshank's squad carried a 15-point lead into halftime after shooting 55 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, CNCC extended its lead all the way to 22 points before a late surge by LCC. It was too little too late for the Titans. Todd finished with 20 points on 10-of-18 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Johnson added 16 points, four rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
Mitch Jeppesen came up with 14 points and six rebound. Christensen produced 13 points and eight rebounds.
Santiago Casarin nearly had the double-double with nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Also notable was
Arthur Videira who grabbed eight rebounds.
On Saturday, Eastern Wyoming was the team taking the early lead. The Lancers led CNCC 7-0 after just two minutes of play. Colorado Northwestern's first bucket of the game came on a Videira dime to a cutting Christensen. That sparked a 21-5 run for the Spartans and fueled a nine-point lead at halftime. In the first half alone, Christensen scored 13 points and Casarin tallied 12 points. The second half was all CNCC. The Spartans exploded for 49 points and held Eastern Wyoming to 30 during the final 20 minutes as Todd put up 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the final frame. By the final buzzer, Christensen had poured in a game-high 26 points, Casarin, Todd, and
Carson Forsey all notched 12 points with Todd grabbing nine rebounds and Casarin adding seven.
Next up for Colorado Northwestern Community College Men's Basketball is a trip to Price, Utah, for games against Southern Nevada and Jump Start Academy on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
