CNCC Women’s Basketball celebrates ‘Sophomore Day’ in grand fashion

RANGELY, Colo. (February 24, 2023) – It's always hard to say goodbye, it just is.

The Colorado Northwestern Community College Women's Basketball team did exactly that Saturday, saying goodbye to sophomores Aurelia LoweCarolynn Washington, and Eva Kingston in the program's annual 'Sophomore Day' festivities. The class that set a foundation in CNCC's program rebuild also earned a thrilling win in their final game in Hefley Gym, picking up a 65-64 decision to Snow College.

It was Snow who jumped out to a strong halftime lead, posting a 39-26 advantage at the break. CNCC went to work in the second half though, limiting Snow to just 4-of-13 shooting in the fourth quarter. Trailing 64-63, the Lady Spartans set up Hailey Long to hit the game-winning shot as the final buzzer sounded! The victory marked a key milestone in Coach Benedick's rebuild process. Prior to todays win, CNCC's last victory against Snow College occurred on February 23, 2013. The win would mark the first victory in the last decade (!) the Lady Spartans have had against Snow College.

Eva Kingston led CNCC with 24 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Hailey Long posted 22 points and 6 rebounds. Jessie Ford also scored 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Colorado Northwestern's 2022-23 season ends with a record of 9-17 and 5-12 in Scenic West Athletic Conference games, giving this years Lady Spartans the highest conference win total the program has had in the past decade.
