Spartans are 5-7 in Their Last Twelve Games

The Colorado Northwester Community College Spartans are 5-7 in their last 12 games.  This record has the Spartans in fifth place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings where they are currently behind Salt Lake Community College (26-2, 32-6), College of Southern Idaho (16-10, 28-12), College of Southern Nevada (15-13, 23-20), and Utah State Eastern (12-14, 15-23).  The Spartans will host the Eagles of Utah State Eastern on April 21, 22, and 23.  The Spartans are looking for redemption in the season series with the Eagles as they took three of four games from the Spartans in March in Price, Utah.  The Eagles will be coming in off a series sweep against the Community Christian College Saints and the Spartans are looking to pick up after dropping four straight games to SWAC leader, Salt Lake Community College.
Five of the Spartans wins have come lately from one game against College of Southern Idaho on April 1 in Twin Falls when the Spartans took down the Golden Eagles 9-8 in extra innings.  The Spartans led the Golden Eagles eight to nothing through five innings, but the Golden Eagles scored eight runs of their own in two innings to force extra innings.  Rodrigo Sanchez (McAllen, Texas) threw five strong innings for the Spartans with four strikeouts and three walks.  Zach Radigan (Littleton, Colorado) gained the win for the Spartans as he pitched one inning while striking out two and allowing no runs.
The Spartans next wins came in the home series with the Saints from Community Christian College.  The win in game one resulted from a come from behind win for the Spartans.  Trailing by three runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Spartans scored four and then one run in each of the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to take a six to four lead and hold on for the win.  Evan Bunevich (Littleton, Colorado) pitched six great innings while only giving up four runs, walking one Saint batter and striking out ten.  Pim Vijfvinkel (Rhoon, Netherlands) paved the way at the plate for the Spartans with two hits and one run scored.  Berk Barnes (Alpine, Utah) also recorded two hits on the day with one single and one double and two runs scored.
The Spartans then took two games from the Saints on Friday, April 8.  Rodrigo Sanchez picked up the win for the Spartans to earn his second of the season.  Sanchez went four and two-thirds innings with seven strikeouts and four walks.  Pim Vijfvinkel continued to hit well as he again went two for three with a single and triple.  Parker DeYoung (Draper, Utah) reached base safely three times with a double and two hit-by-pitches to score two of the Spartans seven runs.  Santiago Guerrero (Las Cruces, New Mexico) threw five and one-third innings while striking out three Saints hitters.  Zack Radigan took home the win for the Spartans as they were able to break the Saints two run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Spartans plated six runs.
In game four against the Saints, the Spartans were able to take home the sweep with a 10-3 victory over the Saints.  Offensively, the Spartans were led by Chris Larkin (Las Vegas, Nevada) Peyton Wilson (American Fork, Utah), and Court McDaniel (Loma, Colorado) who each had two hits on the day.  Chris Larkin scored three of the Spartans ten runs while Peyton Wilson and Cameron Ostmark (West Jordan, Utah) scored two runs each.  Luis Perez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) earned his second win on the year from the mound.  Perez went five innings while allowing one run with two walks and seven strikeouts.  The win put the Spartans record at 15-25 overall and 10-18 in SWAC play.
The Spartans were unable to cool off the hot Salt Lake Community College Bruins at home as they dropped all four games to the Bruins.  The Spartans will host the Eagles of Utah State Eastern starting at 3 pm on Thursday, April 21.
