RANGELY, Colo. (January 11, 2020) – Returning home made all the difference in the world for the Colorado Northwestern Community College men's basketball team.
The Spartans returned home and earned an impressive win over the College of Southern Idaho on Saturday, posting a 90-86 win that gave CNCC its first win of the conference season. The victory boosts CNCC's overall record to 3-17 with a Scenic West mark of 1-1.
The Spartans jumped out and took a big lead after the first half, controlling on their way to a 44-30 halftime lead. CNCC made nine three-point attempts in the first half, limiting Southern Idaho to just 34.6 percent shooting. However, CSI turned the tables in the second half, coming back to within 85-83 with 1:42 remaining. However, CNCC was able to close the game at the free-throw line, with
Dre'Quez Harvey hitting several critical foul shots to propel the Spartans to the late win.
Azarien Stephens finished with a team-high 18 points, while Harvey posted 17 points.
Amer Mandzic scored 13 points and
Jalaughn Jackson had 12 points. Javonte Wyllie was the other double-digit scorer, finishing with 10 points.
CNCC will play Snow College on Thursday, Jan. 16, while traveling to play USU Eastern on Saturday, Jan. 18.
